Earlier this year, our team had the opportunity to participate in a joint seminar with several local adoption agencies. One of the most meaningful discussions focused on the emotional complexity adoptees may experience when considering contact with their birth families.

A key topic explored was the concept of "loyalty"—specifically, how adoptees may carry a deep sense of responsibility and concern for how their adoptive families might feel about such contact. As social workers, we were encouraged to reflect deeply on how this internal conflict can impact an adoptee’s emotional well-being.

As many of our adoptive families know, an adoptee's interest in exploring their roots does not take away from the deep love they have for their adoptive family. We sincerely thank you for the open, supportive, and non-judgmental spaces you create. The spaces where adoptees feel safe to express their curiosity and are encouraged to explore their birth origins with confidence and care.
